Congratulations are in order for a number of our swimmers who have had some incredible results during this championships season for the Otters.

Jeff Braches, Eduardo Gamboa-Araiza, Samantha Mallon, Jonathan Mills have all qualified to represent the Otters at the 2010 Short Course Provincials in Etobicoke, Feb 25-28.  All swimmers are hoping to place in the top 8 of their events and swim personal bests.

 

Congratulations to the team of 32 qualified Otters who competed at Regional Champs in Barrie.  The meet was a great success, with many swimmers earning points and placing in the top 8 in events.  Special mention must go to:

Eduardo Gamboa-Araiza – 1st in 100 BK, 200 IM, 50 FR, 100 FR, 200 BK & 100 FL

Jonathan Mills – 1st in 200 FR, 400 FR, 400 IM & 800 FR, 2nd 200 FL &100 FL,

Wyatt Stockwell – 1st 50 FR and 100 FR

Samantha Mallon – 2nd 200 IM, 100 BR, 100 FR,  200 BK, 200 BR & 3rd 100 BK

Brent Waddell – 2nd 50 FR, 3rd 200 IM, 100 BR,

Mathew Wormington – 2nd 200 FR, 3rd 400 IM

Jeff Braches – 3rd  200 BK

Sam Howard – 3rd 200 BR

Wesley McGowan – 3rd 200 BK

 

Top eight finishes were also achieved by Deirdre Allen, Jeff Braches, Claire Howard, Sam Howard, Hannah Jones, Amy Karpenko, Klay Kulik, Wesley McGowan, Shania Nichol, Kaitlyn Patterson, Aimee Richards, Ryleigh Sadler, Sophie Skillen, Chelsea Smith, Morgan Smith, Ben Staples, Aidan Staples, Wyatt Stockwell, Graham Synnott, George Vritsios, Brent Waddell and Matthew Wormington.

 

Overall the team placed 5th with a total of 501 points.  OOSC relays also greatly contributed to this team point total.

Congratulations to our University swimmers who, while away and competing for the Otters and their Universities have also been experiencing tremendous success.

Emily Jones swimming OOSC/LU qualified to swim at Senior Provincial Championships in January in Toronto.  This was a first Senior qualification for the Otters.  Emily placed 13th, 18th in 50 and 100 back respectively achieving personal best times.

Jocelyn Gillespie WLU and Emily Jones LU qualified to swim in the Ontario University Championships in February at Brock U.  Jocelyn achieved personal bests in her events and moved up the rankings from her performance last year.

Emily Jones finished 6th in both 50 back and 100 back and 9th in 200 back.  Also achieving qualification times for Canadian University Championships in Toronto Feb 18 – 20.  These were the fastest OUA’s in history with a highly competitive field.  Well done Ladies. 

 

Finally congratulations to Eduardo Gamboa-Ariaza, Jonathan Mills, Ben Staples, and Brent Waddell who have been selected to participate in the Huronia Regional “Train to Train” 12/13 camp in Huntsville in March.  Well done Lads!

 

Results from the final Championship meets of the Short Course season will be announced in the next couple of weeks.  Good Luck Otters.
