Club
Mission
The Orangeville Otters Swim Club is a
not-for-profit community based
organization. Our goal is to promote
swimming as part of a healthy lifestyle as well
as a sport for life. We aim to support our
members in their social, mental, and physical
development as they endeavor to achieve success
in swimming.
A Board of Directors administers the club and
works closely with the coaching staff.
The Orangeville Otters Swim Club is a registered
member of Swim Ontario which is the non-profit
sports governing body responsible for the
organization of amateur swimming in Ontario.
The Otters' philosophy is best described in a
Swimmer's Bill of Rights declaring each swimmer
has:
The right of the opportunity
to participate in sports regardless of ability
level;
The right to have qualified
adult leadership;
The right to participate in a
safe and healthy environment;
The right to play as a child
and not as an adult;
The right to proper
preparation for the participation in sport;
The right to be treated with
dignity by all involved;
The right to equal
opportunity in striving for success;
The right to have fun through
sport.

COACHES
Head Coach:
Anne Bevan Jones
B.F.A Hons.,B.Ed.,NCCP Level 3,NLS certified
Anne's involvement in competitive swimming began
when her parents as coaches began the
Chinguacousy Swim Club (now COBRA) in
Brampton. She competed in her first meet
when she was 5 years of age. Anne competed
locally, provincially, nationally and
internationally in her 15 years of
swimming. She was a member of the
Etobicoke Swim Club by age 11 and finally the
York University Swim Team.
Anne held several Provincial and National Age
Group records in backstroke events and relay
events. She accomplished success in the
IM, distance freestyle and butterfly events as
well. Masters swimming still awaits her in
the future.
After university Anne went on to pursue a career
in teaching at the Secondary school level.
Anne and her husband Greg have two girls, Emily
and Hannah. In 1998 Anne began
volunteering with the Orangeville Otters Swim
Club once her own children were drawn into the
sport. She enjoyed her return to the deck
working with her parents George and Beryl Bevan
and her former age group coach Gunter Richter
all with OOSC! In 2002 after 14 years of
teaching, Anne decided to leave her headship in
the Fine Arts to become the Head Coach with
OOSC. The combination of her experience
with teaching children, her philosophy of
quality training and her understanding of
competitive swimming are well suited for this
fast developing club.

The
Fundraising Program
The Orangeville Otters Swim Club has introduced
an optional Fundraising Program as a way to help
swimmers and their families in the Competitive
groups keep their costs down. Should a swim
family decide to not participate in the
Fundraising Program they are asked to include
full payment of fees and fundraising at the time
of registration. When a family options to
"Buy" out of the Fundraising Program they are
not contacted for fundraising events.
While families choosing to buy out of the
Fundraising Program don't need to
participate in Fundraising activities, they are
still required to work at the Otter's annual
swim meet(s). All families with a child
participating in the swim club's home swim meets
are required to work at the meets in some
capacity.
The Fundraising Program does not apply to the
Swimming Skills group. However, members of
this group are still given the option of
Fundraising. A family in the Swimming
Skills group raising money for the club's
Fundraising Program, will receive 50% of the
money raised, as a credit towards their child's
next session's fees.
Fundraising fees differ depending on the
specific group the swimmer is enrolled in.
Two postdated cheques are required at
registration. Each cheque will be for 50%
of the Fundraising total. One cheque is
dated for January 15th and the second cheque is
dated for May 31st. Discounts on
Fundraising amounts are available for families
with multiple Competitive level swimmers.
The Orangeville Otters Swim Club tries to have a
different type of Fundraising activity each
month. All fundraising activities are
simple and involve products that are easy to
sell. These are also items used around the
house. Examples of items used in the
Fundraising Program from the past are:
Regal products, chocolates, chocolate almonds,
Christmas candles, flower bulbs and seeds,
magazine subscriptions, frozen foods, cookie and
muffin batter. Volunteering at home swim meets
also earns credit towards fundraising.
The major Fundraiser for the year is the annual
Swim-A-Thon in late April or early May.
The success of this annual Swim-A-Thon has an
impact on the next season's swimming fee
structure.
