Competitive
Swimming Program
Our competitive groups are designed to introduce
young people to the sport of swimming as a means
of fitness, self-improvement and fun. Programs
run from September 2011 to June
2012. Fees will include Swim Ontario
membership and insurance fees. A variety
of competitive levels are available ranging from
pre-competitive, local, regional, provincial and
national. The level of intensity of
the program is designed to increase based on a
swimmer’s age, experience, achievement of
personal goals and program aims.
Junior Age Group – Age 7-11
This is an introduction to competitive training
and meets. Training is geared to help
young athletes to achieve personal goals in
swimming for fitness, future competitions and
fun. Technical and training development is
the goal of the program. Competition at
all meets is voluntary. Selection of
groups will be based on swimmer dedication
level, personal goals and subject to coach
evaluation.

Advanced Age Group – Age 10-17
This program is designed for competitive
swimmers who are training and competing to
achieve personal goals in swimming. It is
also an entry level for older athletes to
competitive swimming. Continued technical
and training development is the aim of the
group. Swimmers have not acquired a
majority of provincial A-E standards yet but are
working towards achieving this goal. Competition
at some meets is required. Selection of
group will be based on swimmer and family level
of dedication, personal goals and subject to
coach evaluation.

Regional Groups – Age 11–17
Training, intensity and racing in this group is
geared towards swimmers who are working toward
or currently achieve Regional levels of
performance and Provincial A-E Standards.
Swimmers will compete at Invitational and
Regional meets. Regular attendance is
required as is a full commitment to in-water and
dryland training at the appropriate
intensity. The future aim of these
swimmers is the Provincial level.
Competition at most meets is expected. Selection
of group will be based on Swimmer and family
level of dedication, personal goals and subject
to coach evaluation.
Regional 2: 6 hours/week

Provincial/National Group
This program is for swimmers who are Provincial
or National qualifiers and dedicated Provincial
A-B Standard qualifiers who are aiming at
Provincial qualifications. Swimmers will
compete at Invitational, Regional meets
including those with higher levels of
qualification times and competition as well as
Provincial and National meets. High
expectations exist for swimmer attendance,
dedication to demanding in-water and dryland
training and competing. Selection of group will
be based on swimmer and family level of
dedication, personal goals and subject to coach
evaluation.
